Investing in technology anywhere can be a big decision. But when it comes to buying from overseas, we understand customers might need a bit more information before taking the leap. Last year, we shipped our products to more than 85 countries, so we’re no stranger to catering to businesses far and wide. To help put minds at ease, and give you a better understanding of exactly what’s involved along the way, here are some of the key considerations you should bear in mind when purchasing internationally.
Find the right product
To find the right piece of IT equipment for your business, it’s important to know exactly what you need or want it to do. Think of it like buying a new winter coat. You’d want something that’s sturdy and good quality, to keep you warm when the colder weather hits - a light denim jacket designed for summer nights out simply won’t do the trick.
When it comes to technology, the approach is the same, and knowing your end goal is key. For example, you might want to increase your storage capacity to make way for new projects or invest in better processor power to increase productivity. Depending on what your end vision is, there will be a different product that is best suited to help you get there. So, ask yourself – are you going for a winter walk or a glass of wine in the sun?
At ETB we can configure our products to suit your needs. You can do this yourself online using our configurator tool or get in touch and our knowledgeable sales team will be happy to advise on the best system for you.
Choose the right supplier
Just like finding the right product, finding the right supplier is vital. You’ll need a supplier you can trust and that you’re confident will stock what you’re looking for. Our website hosts nearly 5000 products from an array of leading brands. That means we have something to suit just about every need and budget. No matter where you’re located, our easy online ordering process and years of international shipping experience will give you complete peace of mind.
What’s more, our warranties are valid across the globe, so, no matter where you’re based, we’ll always be here to support you.
Consider how your product will be transported
Shipping your precious cargo through customs and across country borders might seem like a daunting proposition, but a trusted supplier will be able to handle the ins and outs of delivery for you. Contrary to what many will tell you, buying internationally needn’t be much different to buying from somewhere close by, and certainly doesn’t need to be a stress.
Our highly experienced shipping and export team are always on-hand to help. They’ll fill out all the necessary paperwork, go through the relevant procedures and label your package correctly so it gets to your door hassle-free. Having us take care of all the finer details means that once your product is ordered, all you need to do is sit back, relax and wait for it to arrive.
Make sure it gets to you safely
IT products can be delicate, and a broken server or switch is no use to anyone. We take additional steps to make sure it’s safe and secure from our door to yours. We really go above and beyond with packaging tailored to each product, meaning, no matter how far your order has to travel, it won’t arrive with any lumps or bumps. Just like our UK shipments, any international order that leaves our warehouse will always be fully tracked and insured, so you can follow its journey while knowing it’s fully protected every step of the way.
Knowing the costs and avoiding hidden charges
If you’re considering buying from overseas, it’s important to consider what the associated costs will be. Nobody likes an expensive surprise and VAT, import tax and delivery costs could all come into play. Our customers want to know exactly how much they’ll be paying from the very start, so we’re always upfront and transparent from the off.
Our international customers won’t ever be charged UK VAT or tax on their orders, and in most cases, there is no import duty applied to our products. Local tax will be applied by the courier before delivery and there is a small processing fee added. For example, a customer from Italy spending 2000 euros on their order will pay 22% VAT (440 euros) plus a 15 euro processing fee to the courier.
While buying tech overseas might not seem like the easy option, it really isn’t any more challenging than buying local, and it can help you get exactly what you need, rather than a ‘best option’. If you’re able to find the right company with the right product, location shouldn’t stop you from making the right decision for your business.
We’re proud to look after customers worldwide, and we love hearing positive feedback from all over the globe. Whether your organisation is five or 5000 miles away, we’re here to help you find you the right solution and ensure your order reaches you safely.
