ETB are proud to stock a huge range of refurbished Dell servers for sale, providing our customers with great savings and helping them to do so much more with their IT budget. But what does ‘refurbished’ actually mean?
It’s a question we get asked a lot here at ETB, and we find that our customers’ idea of ‘refurbished’ covers a huge range of meanings. For some, refurbished means ‘nearly new’, while others assume that refurbished means old, used, end of life servers that have been given a few new parts and a cosmetic upgrade. So which is true, and what can you expect when you buy a refurbished Dell server?
Where do they come from? The vast majority of ETB’s pre-owned server stock comes from the manufacturers, distributors and leasing companies that supply new servers. They will often have orders that are cancelled or have customer who change their mind immediately after installation, or simply excess stock. This means that much of our stock is less than six months old, and most of it has never even been used.
Where an order has been cancelled before dispatch, the items are graded as new, but can still offer a discount to the list price. However, when an order has been dispatched and returned, it is graded as ‘new open box’. This is stock that has been taken out of the original packaging, and perhaps even installed on a system, but which has seen little or no use. ETB thoroughly tests these severs, wiping any data or operating system that has been installed, and then repackages them ready for sale. These servers are new in almost every sense, but because they are not brand new from the manufacturer, they come at a significant saving.
Pre-owned servers When a server has been used and is traded in as part of a replacement project, then they are classed as either manufacturer refurbished or ETB refurbished. There servers have seen some action in a company system, but have been fully tested, cleaned and returned to factory settings by our expert team. Once again, these are often almost-new machines which have been replaced by rapidly growing companies who have upgraded their system or changed their set up, yet they offer an even bigger saving against the new list price.
Of course, not every pre-owned server that comes in is suitable for refurbishment. Only the very best will make the grade at ETB, with all other servers are stripped for their parts, which we use to create bespoke servers, or sell to customers to repair their existing servers.
Do you they come with a warranty? The high quality and limited age of our ‘new open box’ and ‘refurbished’ servers means that you can buy with confidence. Many of our newer units will come with the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty, while all other ETB servers, including refurbished Dell servers for sale, will come with at least one year return to base warranty, which can usually be upgraded to three years, or even three years with on-site support.
So forget any negative pre-conceptions you may have about ‘second hand’, ‘used’ or ‘pre-owned’ servers. More often than not with ETB, the only real difference is the price.
